Checkmate is a Battle Nations family of guilds made up of players that have fun, help each other, and win.
We Have Fun
This is a game, not a job. It should be fun. If you aren’t having fun, then something needs to change. Our rule #1 is to have fun, so if you aren’t fun, you are breaking rule #1.
We Help Each Other
Battle Nations is a much different game when you are part of a group of active players that help each other. You can achieve much more with the help of others, and the satisfaction of helping someone else achieve something is rewarding. The personal relationships forged along the way can become more significant than the game itself.
We Win
We are a competitive group, always wanting to improve as players and as a guild. Whether that means climbing the leaderboard during an invasion event, achieving a higher tier in a boss strike, or competing against each other in FvF tournaments, we push hard to win. It’s an awesome feeling to celebrate our hard-earned victories together.
Current Requirements to Join
There are two requirements to join Gambit. You must have r6 wimps and you must be able to score 100K in a boss strike. Players in Gambit are moved to Checkmate if they post a boss strike score that would place them in the top 35 in Checkmate.
We love referrals! If your friend is looking for a guild and you refer them to us, let someone in leadership know. These referrals are often quickly approved to join.
Social Guidelines
We use ingame chat, our forum, and GroupMe. All members need to be registered on the forum and GroupMe so that we can communicate.
We have players all over the world, but everyone must be able to speak English so that everyone can communicate.
We don’t police our chat areas very closely, but everyone should keep in mind that foul language or lewd content could offend someone. When posting a message or picture in a general area for the whole guild to see, keep it PG-13.
We don’t tolerate bullying or abusive behavior. If you have a problem with another member of the guild, send a private message to an officer.
Wimps/SP Farms
Everyone in the guild must have r6 wimps to share. In addition, Lightning Dragoons, Chuckers, and Portable Walls are commonly shared.
We help each other rank units by sending each other wimps/SP farms. These are occupations that are easy to kill and provide a lot of SP. Before killing the wimp occupations on your outpost, allow another player in the guild to kill them first, then you reject the ‘aid’ and kill them yourself. This process is called ‘first kill’ or FK for short.
There are two advantages to the FK process: First, two players are getting SP instead of one. Second, the outpost owner can destroy defensive units (walls) without sending them to repair bays if the occupation has already been FK’ed. It is never okay to destroy wall while performing a FK. It is only okay to destroy walls if it is an occupation on your outpost which has already been FK’ed.
We also participate in garrison storming, which is filling your garrison with wimps and allowing other players to attack them. If your garrison is ‘open’ this means you are online and can return troops immediately by attacking them with sandbags. Garrison storming is described in greater detail elsewhere in the forum.
Be a giver, not just a taker. If you ask for wimps, you should be willing to send out wimps/SP farms as well. If you aren’t able to send any, you should not ask for any. Doing FK’s helps everyone so no worries about sending wimps if you are doing FK’s.
It is always okay to do FK’s on wimp farms on other players’ outposts. You never have to ask permission to do this. It helps both players. We often advertise in chat if we have wimps that need a FK, or if we have placed wimps somewhere that need a FK, but if you find some wimps somewhere in need of a FK then go ahead and do the FK, no questions asked. Just remember no killing walls while doing the FK.
Don’t assume that any and every occupation on your friend’s outpost is an SP farm that needs a FK. It could be that it is a friendly occupation for resources. Just use common sense (wimp farms are obvious) and if you aren’t sure then ask. It is considered bad manners to kill friendly resource occupations.
Resources
Do not occupy buildings without permission unless the building has a blue flag next to it. We use blue flags to indicate when buildings are okay to occupy. If there is no blue flag, then you must ask before occupying.
If you are having trouble finding what you need marked with a blue flag, then the best course of action is to post in chat/GroupMe what you need – usually it won’t be long before someone invites you to occupy them.
All players should create some occupation matrixes on their outpost for others to occupy. Artificial ponds, propane tanks, and missile silos are always useful.
Ghost occupying is a way of occupying a resource without affecting production. It also allows multiple players to occupy the same building. This is especially handy for high-demand items like steel or for boss strikes to gain resources for donation. Ghost occupying is explained in detail elsewhere in our forum.
BN Events
Everyone is expected to contribute to every BN event. If you know that you will be unable to play during an upcoming event (work, holiday) then contact leadership before the event starts to discuss leaving the guild for that event and rejoining afterwards. Scores of zero hurt the guild badly and are taken very seriously.
Performance expectations change over time. Because we continue grow and improve as a guild, our performance expectations increase from time to time. As of the beginning of 2015, the guild average boss strike score in Checkmate is around 500K and anything under 200K is considered unacceptable. The performance expectations in Gambit are more forgiving. The average there is around 150K and we ask everyone to try and score at least 100K.
